City of Cordele approves road maintenance projects

Cordele City Commission approved a supplementary list of road maintenance projects totally more than $412,000 from grant funding provided by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
During the Jan. 7 meeting, the commission reviewed the list of supplementary road projects approved under the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant program with City Manager Angela Redding.
“You will see that uh the supplemental funding for 2024 and these are the additional funds that were approved and with these particular products a match is not required and so the estimated cost is $412,0024.59,” Redding said. “Of course, the cost increased because as was mentioned before, you will see that some of these projects list a full death reclamation, meaning that these roads will be paved to standard, something that I would not say all of the roads, but some of the roads were not.
She went on to say that the list of projects on the list “will definitely be of benefit to the community and one particular street, 12th Street.”
Redding added that these funds will include the contractor coming back to do the striping on those receiving GDOT’s approval for the LMIG list.
She said she wanted to ask for approval of the 2024-2025 list.
Projects on the 2024 supplemental funding list are:
- 11th Avenue from Pecan Street to 1st Street, resurfacing street, $99,639.
- 29th Avenue from Pecan Street to Hickory Street, resurfacing street, $60,133.
- 28th Avenue from 13th Street to Oconee Circle, resurfacing street, $42,837.
- 14th Avenue from 9th Street to 10th Street, resurfacing street, $20,441.
- 15th Avenue from 13th Street to 15th Street, resurfacing street, $32,320.
- 12th Street from 13th Avenue to 14th Avenue, full depth reclamation of street, $50,000.
- 5th Street from 11 1/2 Alley to 15 1/2 Alley, dig up and raise/repair around eight manholes with concrete to grade of asphalt, $20,000.
- 16th Avenue from Owens Street to Owens Street, raise, level and secure manhood with concrete to grade of asphalt, $2,500.
Projects on the 2025 supplement funding list are:
- 16th Avenue from Central Avenue to Central Avenue, raise/repair around two manholes with concrete to grade of asphalt, $5,000.
- 16th Avenue from Stewart Avenue to Stewart Avenue, raise, level and secure manhood with concrete to grade of asphalt, $2,500.
- 16th Avenue from Arc-Way to Hwy. 90, raise, level and secure manhood with concrete to grade of asphalt, $2,500.
- 12th Street from 11th Avenue to 12th Avenue at the curve, resurfacing street, $13,734,
- 12th Avenue from 13th Street to 12th Street at the curve, resurfacing street, $17,952.
- 11th Avenue from 12th Street to 12th Street, resurfacing street, $18,849.
- 14th Avenue from 12th Street to 13th Street, resurfacing street, $23,616.17
Election qualification fees
Commissioners approved an ordinance fixing and publishing the qualification fees for offices that are up for election in 2025.
“In the election to be held on the Tuesday next following the first Monday in November of 2025, the qualification for the at-large position on the City Commission shall be $576 and the qualification fee for Ward Two and for Ward Three shall be $576,” according to the ordinance.
State law allows municipalities to set the qualifying fee for each office up for a general primary, non-partisan or general election no later than Feb. 1 for the coming year.
All ordinances conflicting with the approved ordinance are repealed with its approval.
