Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 held its Fall Quarter Court of Honor in the Sanctuary of Cordele First Church on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The Fall Quarter CoH usually sees the least amount of awards presented, with the most being presented during the Summer Quarter event, which follows summer camp. The Fall CoH is still important for informational purposes as the six weeks that follow are the busiest time of the year for the Troop.
Senior Patrol Leader Simon Baker opened the ceremony, leading the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then led the Scouts and Scouters in the Scout Oath and Law, followed by the Outdoor Code.
Scoutmaster John Frost then took over the program, presenting Simon with his Eagle-Required Citizenship in Society merit badge and Charter Organization Representative David Wade with his 11-year service star. He also presented patches to the Scouts and Scouters who participated in the 2024 Camp Osborn Day of Service.
Assistant Scoutmaster Britt Brinson then filled in the assembly on the upcoming schedule:
* Oct. 28-Nov. 18 “It’s Thanksgiving….Butt” Boston Butt Sale
* Oct. 29-31 Cordele Fair (Recruiting)
* Nov. 1-3 Cub Family Weekend
* Nov. 8-10 Order of the Arrow Fall Fellowship
* Nov. 9 Tribute to Veterans at Georgia Veterans State Park
* Nov. 11 Flag Retirement at Historic Cordele Boy Scout Hut
* Nov. 15-17 South Georgia Council Camporee
* Nov. 25-26 Butt-Kickin’ Butt Cookin’ – Part 2
* Nov. 26 “It’s Thanksgiving….Butt” Boston Butt Pickup
* Nov. 27 Thanksgiving Food Distribution
* Dec. 5 Cordele Christmas Parade
* Dec. 6-8 Webelos Rendezvous
* Dec. 23 Troop Christmas Parade
Following the calendar update, SPL Simon Baker led the Swearing-In Ceremony for his successor as Senior Partol Leader, Life Scout Jacob Frost.
The last item on the agenda for the night was distribution of the tickets for our new fundraiser, which we are calling “It’s Thanksgiving….Butt” Boston Butt Sale. Moving forward, we hope to offer this second Boston Butt Sale instead of trying to sell popcorn. The public has always been very supportive of our original “Send My Butt To Camp” Boston Butt Sale.
In his first act as our new SPL, Jacob Frost led our traditional closing prayer.
Scouts in attendance were Jake Atkins, Landon Atkins, Simon Baker, Gabe Browning, and Jacob Frost. Adult Scouters were Brady Atkins, Britt Brinson, Terry Fennell, John Frost, and David Wade.
