John W. Floyd, Jr. of Cordele passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 at his residence at the age of 86. Born in Ridgeland, SC, he was the son of the late John W. Floyd, Sr. and Eunice Popham Floyd. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Inman and Rose Anne Raber. Johnny, as he was best known, was president of Floyd Timber Company. He loved his church and was an active member of Pinecrest Baptist where he served on the Deacon Board, the Finance Committee, and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. His community was very important to him and he always wanted it to be the best it could be and he tried to be a leader in that direction. Johnny served in the Georgia General Assembly for 20 years and GDOT for 12 years. He was one of the founders of Central Bank and Trust, now Ameris Bank, and served on the Ameris Bank Board. He was a past president of the Rotary Club and also the Georgia Forestry Commission. He deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Two of his favorite activities were attending the Georgia football games and sitting on the dock at the river, just watching and enjoying God’s beauty and nature. Johnny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy J. Floyd; two sons, Jason Floyd (Brigett) and Trae Floyd, all of Cordele; a sister, Mary Malphus of Beaufort, SC; and five grandchildren, Jarrett Floyd, Julian Floyd, Beau Floyd, Lola Grace Floyd and John Wilson Floyd, IV, all of Cordele; a sister-in-law, Dianne Matthews and a brother-in-law, Morris Jones (Zelda), all of Lagrange. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Pinecrest Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
