Shirley Bagwell Carter, 88, of Cordele passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Carter; her parents, Jess and Ora Powell Bagwell; siblings, Marie Jeffers and Charles Bagwell; brothers-in-law, Henry C. Ingram, and John D. Jeffers Sr.; and a sister in law, Mary Carter Williams.
Born in Cullman, AL, Shirley was one of five children born into this devoted farming family. She was a successful business woman with an entrepreneurial spirit. She was a hairdresser and owner of a Merle Norman Cosmetics studio since 1972. She had an outgoing and friendly personality and loved working with the public. She had a smile and a happy greeting for all that visited her store and salon. She enjoyed traveling in her later years with her dedicated caregiver and friend, Max.
Shirley is survived by two sisters, Geraldine B. Mann (Joe) and LaVerne Ingram; several special nieces and nephews, Kameron Causey (Michael), Bob Mann, Nona Jones, Julianne Drenon, Jennifer Mann, John D. Jeffers Jr. (Dena), Pam Szabo (Robin), several great nieces and nephews; and her caregiver and best friend, Maximo Torres.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2024 in Zion Hope Cemetery at Antioch Baptist Church.
