South Georgia Technical College recently held two STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) sessions at the college’s Crisp County Center in Cordele.

Electrical Systems instructor Jeff Sheppard led a group of eleventh and twelfth-grade students from the Crisp Learning Center in a variety of STEM activities: the students made electrical circuits, built towers from paper and masking tape, and created light sabers using popsicle sticks. Admissions Coordinator and High School Initiative Specialist Hunter Little also demonstrated SGTC’s robotic dog.

Culinary Arts instructor Johnny Davis and his students worked with fifth-graders from Crisp County Elementary on making chocolate chip cookies. The fifth-graders also participated in STEM activities and learned CPR technique from EMT instructor Chip Walls and his students.

Heidi Goodin, Tonya Barrett and Macy Williams of Chattahoochee-Flint RESA coordinated and led the STEM activities with assistance from SGTC instructors and administrators. Students in both groups also learned more about all the programs available at the Crisp County Center.
