South Georgia Technical College’s Career Services department helps students connect their education to job opportunities. Many SGTC students even work in their chosen fields while still enrolled at the college, giving them a jumpstart in their careers. The electronics technology program, under the direction of instructor Mike Collins, currently has three students enrolled who exemplify this opportunity afforded by pursuing a technical education at South Georgia Tech.

Matt Weeks of Preston is a 2019 graduate of Webster County High School. While working toward his diploma, Weeks secured a full-time position as an Electrical Technician with Interfor Preston Division. He has continued his studies and is on track to graduate with an associate degree in electronics next spring.

A 2022 graduate of Schley County High School, Quinton Edwards of Ellaville will graduate with his associate degree in December. He currently works as a part-time intern at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins while continuing to take classes at SGTC.

Lance Cornell of Andersonville earned a diploma in welding and joining technology from South Georgia Tech in 2014. After working as an Electrical Tech with Metro Power in Vienna, Cornell is now employed by Imerys as an Electrician. Cornell returned to South Georgia Technical College to further his education by enrolling in the electronics technology program. Married for 25 years, Cornell has three children, two of whom are also SGTC graduates; one in culinary arts and one in welding and joining technology.

Cynthia Carter, Director of Career Services at SGTC, works with instructors to help them prepare students for the workforce and stand out in a competitive job market. Carter also helps connect students and others in the community with job opportunities in their respective fields. To learn more about SGTC Career Services, email ccarter@southgatech.edu.
