Jack Lawrence Windham Sr., age 92, of Cordele passed away on July 17, 2024, at Fellowship Cordelia Manor. A native of the Algiers Neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the eldest son of the late George McDougald Windham and Matilda Crawford Windham, Jack was also preceded in death by two sons, Jack Lawrence Windham, Jr. and Jonathan Hyde Windham; one brother, Ronald Windham; and one sister, Jewel Windham Leathem. Jack served (stateside) in the US Navy during the Korean War. He went on to enjoy a 39 year career with the Ford-New Holland Tractor Company, finally retiring as an  International Product Manager. A consummate story-teller, Jack authored a book, From Algiers to Cordele: The Jack Windham Story, telling of his local and international adventures. Upon retirement Jack devoted himself to volunteerism. He managed the local blood drive for the American Red Cross for many years. He amassed thousands of hours as a docent on the SAM Shortline, which entertains children of all ages with train rides originating at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park at Lake Blackshear in Crisp County. He was a faithful member of Cordele First United Methodist Church, and loved its Fellowship Sunday School Class. Jack’s servant heart welcomed folks often on Sunday as an usher for worship services. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra Hyde Knox Windham of Cordele; a son, Harry Knox (Mike Bozeman), of Quitman, GA; a daughter, Susannah Herzog (John), of Cordele; a daughter-in-law, Caron Wilkes Windham of Cordele; a sister, Dorothy “Dottie” McGehee of West Palm Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, Doug Hyde (Carol), of Cordele; six grandchildren, Kelsey Herzog, Matthew Windham (Anna), Kayla Klatt (Matt), Luke Herzog, Joshua Windham, and Molly Herzog; three great-grandchildren, Leilah Powell, Julia Klatt, and Madelyn Windham; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service for Jack on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The family will be receiving guests beginning at 2:00 pm at Rainey Funeral Home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Red Cross in Jack’s memory.
