Wilcox County recognizes French heritage through new city road signs.

On July 13, 2024 the Wilcox Chamber of Commerce announced that the county has received four new road signs for the cities of Rochelle, GA and, Abbeville, GA. These signs recognized the namesake of the two cities and the strong French heritage Abbeville, France and La Rochelle, France. In Honor of Bastille Day a holiday that is celebrated on July 14th each year and represents the day, July 14, 1789 when the revolutionaries stormed the Bastille fortress and prison in Paris, France which began the French Revolution and the end of the monarchy. The Wilcox County Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Dr. Kris Fraizer along with the Mayor of Abbeville Ronald Spires and Mayor of Rochelle, Wayne McGuinty dedicated these signs to be placed on Hwy 280 along the East and West bound lanes entering both cities.
