Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 ended its “Send My Butt To Camp” Boston Butt Fundraiser with the annual Butt Kickin’ Butt Cookin’ at the Historic Cordele Boy Scout Hut on Thursday and Friday, May 23-24, 2024.  In the end, we were able to sell and cook 264 big old chunks of pork.

The Scouts started rubbing seasoning on the meat about 6:30 Thursday evening.  The Troop’s cooker, made from a 1000-gallon propane cylinder, was loaded with 88 Butts by 7:00 pm.  The Scouts and Scouters started wrapping the meat in aluminum foil about 11:00 pm.  Returning a few hours later, they took the Butts off of the cooker and placed them in pans, then into coolers well before sunrise.  Then the process began all over again.

The Troop would like to thank everyone who played a part in the success of the event, starting with our customers.  Without your support, there would have been no point in cooking.

We’d also like to thank the folks who loaned us cookers.  Even though we have a new cooker that held 88 Boston Butts when we started cooking Thursday night, we still had another 176 to cook on Friday.  There is no way that we could handle that with our cooker alone.  Thank you to Kenny Calhoun, Kris Herrick, Tommy Stewart, and Bobby Wade for the loan of their cooking equipment.

Of course, we had to have something to cook.  A big Troop 270 thank you goes to Brad Stephens, owner of the Vienna Piggly Wiggly for supplying us with the meat.

We hope all of you will help us out again next year.  It looks like next year’s Butt Kickin’ Butt Cookin’ will be on May 22-23, 2025.
