South Georgia Technical College’s Office of Career Services had the privilege of addressing the Empowerment Pathways Youth Build (EPYB) class on April 1st at the Dowdy Building in Cordele. Marisa Wedges, the EPYB Program Director, warmly welcomed Cynthia Carter, Director of Career Services, to the session.

Before delving into the intricacies of resume building, Carter emphasized the importance of life skills, engaging the students and their instructor. She underscored how life skills contribute to fostering healthy relationships, honing basic communication abilities, cultivating empathy, and effectively managing one’s life. With her guidance, the students crafted their resumes.

Tomeika Davis, Career Coach, ensured that each student departed with a printed copy of their resume, equipped with valuable tools for their professional journey.

These students actively participate in the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) program. According to their instructor, Luke Cason, they will complete seven modules covering employability, communication skills, construction math, hand and power tools, safety protocols, and materials handling.

Robbie Edalgo, an SGTC Adult Education Instructor at the Crisp Center Campus, plays a pivotal role in supporting these students through the High School Equivalency program. While many students are earning as they learn, several aspire to enroll in SGTC’s CNA program or Culinary Arts program in the future.

Carter extended a warm invitation to those interested in exploring SGTC further to attend the upcoming Spring Take-Off Open House, scheduled for Friday, April 12th. This event, offering free admission, will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the James S. Peters Gymnasium on the Americus Campus.
