WINTERVILLE — Judge Kenneth “Kenny” Sirmons’ life is being celebrated by family and friends while they mourn his passing.
Ken was born in Cordele, Ga. to the late Judge Morgan Sirmons and Dorris Evelyn Ellis Sirmons. He and his brother, the late Wayne Lauger Sirmons, grew up on the family farm. Ken graduated from Crisp County High School where he played varsity baseball. After graduating from Valdosta State University, Ken went on to work as a Plant Operations Manager across several industries.
Ken raised his family in LaGrange, Ga. They were blessed by his enduring commitment to provide for, guide and love. They will always remember how he rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren and those in his life he cherished, to share in their success and celebration, provide wisdom, offer his support and cheer them up with his unique humor.
Ken’s passions extended to sports: playing baseball in his youth, golf throughout his life, and hunting all the way through this autumn. Music, often classic rock, was always on in his truck and he’d rarely pass up an opportunity to attend a concert. He was an avid reader of history and fiction. He cherished opportunities to travel, see and experience the world on self-guided itineraries of serendipitous discovery with little more than a rented car and paper map. His journeys most recently took him to the wilds of Alaska and the villages of Ireland.
Ken’s faith in God endured throughout his life. He was a member of Seville Baptist Church, then later joined Second Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
Ken died at his home near Athens, Ga. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 — the day before his 77th birthday.
Ken is survived by his four children: Judge Kevin Sirmons (Christie) of Kennesaw, Ga.; Tara Sirmons Lewis of LaGrange, Ga.; Kenna Shea Sirmons (Chris) of Atlanta, Ga. and Brock Harris Sirmons (Veronica) of LaGrange, Ga. He proudly held in his arms seven grandchildren — Hayley (Aaron), Hannah, Sebastian (Abby), Gabriel, Madison (Jacob), Madeira and Maddux. Further, surviving family members include his aunt, Betty Ellis Wade, and several cousins.
Ken’s funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home in Cordele, Ga. The family will receive friends before the service, at 10 a.m. His burial at Sunnyside Cemetery will be private.
