CORDELE – Janie Lou Mathis Little, 87, passed away Friday night, Nov. 4, 2022, at Cordele Health and Rehab. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Visitation began at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial followed at Oakfield Cemetery in Oakfield, Ga. Rev. Bobby Carpenter officiated the services. “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Just One Rose” was played during the chapel service. “When I Get to Where I’m Going” and “Dancing In the Sky” was played during the graveside service.
Pallbearers were: Kason Gray, Lee Cobb, Kole Gray, Austin Nelms, Greer Hawkins, Mac Hawkins, Brittany Collins, and Josh Collins. Honorary pallbearers were: Abby Nelms, Kelsey Johnson, and Rayn Johnson.
Mrs. Little was born in Warwick, Georgia to the late Jess Mathis and the late Florene Moore Mathis. She was the widow of Earnest Little. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Jessie B. Mathis, Sally Mae Pheil, and Arthur Green Mathis.
She was a retired clerk from the Walmart Deli Department. When her health permitted, she was active with the VFW Post 4742 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid card player and enjoyed dancing and playing Bingo. She also played basketball for Warwick High School and went to state playoffs.
She is survived by her children: Benny F. Daniels of Cordele, Pamela D. Nelms and her husband Jimmy of Sylvester, and Deborah D. Bilger of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; her brother: Charles Mathis and his wife Shirley of Arlington, Ga.; her grandchildren: Rita Goodson, Benji Nelms and his wife Stacey, Lydia Pruett and her husband Kyle, Misty Hawkins and her husband Brent, Amy Weeks and her husband Lamar, and Laura Lil Johnson and her husband Buddha; her great-grandchildren: Brittany Collins and her husband Josh, Dylan Meacham, Lee Cobb, Kelsey Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Kason Gray and his wife Taylor, Kole Gray, Austin Nelms, Abby Nelms, Mack Hawkins, and Greer Hawkins; and one great-great-grandchild: Darby Jo Gray.
