SUBJECT ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE

CRISP COUNTY- June 5, 2020

Authorities arrested Khiry Ensley, a 30-year-old male, resident of Jonesboro, Georgia on June 4, 2020, around 1:25 p.m. Ensley faces charges of marijuana-less than 1 oz., possession, display, use identification of another, identity fraud that does not involve the intention to commit theft, hit and run, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, receipt, possession or transfer of firearm by convicted felon, obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers, and numerous traffic violation charges.

Wednesday, June 4, 2020, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black, Lexus around the 103-mile marker, southbound on GA 401/I75. Deputy First Class (DFC) Harvey requested assistance on the traffic stop after detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Corporal Herrick arrived to assist DFC Harvey. Ensley fled after DFC Harvey retrieved marijuana from the vehicle. DFC Harvey and Corporal Herrick pursued the car as it exited off the interstate. The Ensley subject hit a garbage disposal truck near Blackshear Road and continued fleeing. DFC Harvey also struck the garbage disposal truck after the hit and run. Corporal Herrick continued pursuing the vehicle. Ensley left the car and attempted to flee on foot around 8th Ave and 2nd Street. Ensley was placed under arrest without further incident with the assistance of the Cordele Police Department. Ensley was checked out by Crisp County EMS and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center. DFC Harvey was transported to Crisp Regional Hospital and medically cleared. Georgia State Patrol Post 30 is working the hit and run, and the accident involving DFC Harvey.
