COVID-19 deaths reach double digits in Dooly County

Dooly and Wilcox counties continue to hit disturbing milestones as COVID-19 works its way through south Georgia. According to numbers provided in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s daily COVID-19 status report for Monday, the pandemic is especially pervasive in the two counties – 90 confirmed cases and nine deaths in Wilcox County and 132 confirmed cases and 10 deaths in Dooly County.
The numbers put Dooly and Wilcox just inside the top ten of Georgia counties’ “Cases per 100K” category. Dooly is tenth with 985.07 cases per 100,000 people and Wilcox is ninth with 1,023.89 cases per 100,000 people. Randolph County leads the state with 2,428.19 cases per 100,000 while Dougherty County, held up in news reports across the world as one of the communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, is fourth with 1,718.48 cases per 100,000 people.
Crisp County hovers at the 18th spot for most COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in Georgia with 762.71 cases per 100,000. Four Crisp County residents have died so far and 170 have confirmed cases.
