Cordele Police investigate pair of Tuesday shootings

A pair of shooting incidents kept officers and investigators with the Cordele Police Department busy Tuesday afternoon.
The first shooting occurred around 2:44 p.m. in the 300 block of W. 14th Ave. and resulted in a 13-year-old male with gunshot wounds that required treatment at Crisp Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. According to a press release issued by the police department, as a result of the investigation a 27-year-old male has been arrested in reference to this incident.
Regarding the first shooting incident, CPD’s press release states, “We are very early on this investigation and as a result, no further information will be released at this time. Anyone with additional information pertaining to this incident, please contact the Cordele Police Department at 229.276.2921.”
As first responders were clearing the scene at the W. 14th Ave. shooting, they swung into action again, responding to a shooting call on the 600 block of W. 23rd Ave. at around 4:09 p.m. Tuesday. There they found a 26-year-old male had been shot and transported him to Crisp Regional Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known at this time, either.
According to CPD’s press release, “The offender is unknown at this time and we are still investigating. Anyone with additional information pertaining to this incident, please contact the Cordele Police Department at 229.276.2921.”
In a completely unrelated event later Tuesday evening, a Cordele Police Department officer was struck and injured while in a foot chase with a subject who had run from a traffic stop initiated by a Georgia State Patrol trooper in the area of 9th St. and 16th Ave. at around 6:51 p.m. According to a CPD press release, “A Cordele Police cruiser responding to assist with capturing the wanted subject accidentally struck the pursuing officer that was running behind the subject.”
The injured officer was treated for his injuries at Crisp Regional Hospital and released. The subject was subsequently taken into custody.
