Faye Barrow Spring, 82 of Cordele, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at Crisp Regional Hospital. Because of the present government regulations a private graveside service only will be held.
Faye was born in Dougherty County to the late Roy Rufus Barrow and Myrtle Lee Aultman Barrow. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. “Sonny” Spring, her daughter, Becky Smoak and her sister, Elaine Roche.
Faye graduated from Sylvester High School in 1956. During her lifetime Faye worked in retail and healthcare but her true calling was advocating on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Faye served as a Rural Project Coordinator for the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In 2008 she was awarded The Honorable J. Harvey Davis Outstanding Service Award in recognition for her service to the community and to victims of domestic violence and child abuse. She worked as a legal advocate for Ruth’s Cottage until her retirement in 2009.
Faye was loved by all who knew her. She had a sweet, nurturing spirit. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by two sons, Terry (Tammy) Smoak of Cordele, and Joey (Haley) Spring of Savannah, and a daughter, Sherri Ward of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Carie Parks, Belinda Mayberry, Amanda Smoak, Heather Lank, Lily Spring, Lucy Spring, Rusty Harrison and Jessica Sifford; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
