Pat, as he was lovingly known, was born in Cordele to the late Patrick Francis Fitzgibbons, Sr. and Emylee Sheppard Fitzgibbons. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Hanavan, IV. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a financial analyst and an original member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Very active in his church, he served on the Parish Council and was a Church Lector. He and his wife, Joyce, were the recipients of the Diocese of Savannah Gartland Service Award. Pat was known for his extensive knowledge of Crisp County history and enjoyed sharing his memories of old Cordele. A quick wit, he loved gardening and his cats, but most important to him was his large and wonderful family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Varnadoe Fitzgibbons of Cordele; his children and their spouses, Lea and Pete Donaldson of Albany, Pat F. Fitzgibbons and Joy and Billy Adams all of Cordele, Mary and Bob Williams of Franklin NC, Lydia and Pat Hanavan, III of Winter Springs, FL, John and Becky Fitzgibbons and James and Jill Fitzgibbons, all of Cordele; eight grandchildren, Brooke Hixon, Holly Strickland, Brent Hixon, Fr. Jason Adams, Dr. Angela Adams, Christine Hanavan, Katy Franks and Jack Fitzgibbons; and a number of great-grandchildren. Memorial donations to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 807 South Third Street, Cordele, Georgia 31015 would please the family. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
