A memorial service for W.H. Dowdy of Cordele will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2019 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

W.H., 81, died at his residence Friday. He was born in Cordele and was the son of the late Grady and Beatrice Warren Dowdy. He was a self-employed pipe fitter and welder for the industrial construction business and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. W.H. was an avid fisherman and a champion pool player.

He loved his family and his furbabies, Sissy, Raven, Toby and Little Bit. He is survived by his daughters, Sonja (Stan) Rhodes of Pitts and Michelle Dowdy of Cordele, and their half-sisters, Shealena and Leslea Ann; two brothers, Warren (Betty) Dowdy of Cordele and Stanley (Vicki) Dowdy of Valdosta; two sisters, Sandra Hayslip of Cordele and Vonda (Steve Holmes of McDonough; three grandchildren Holly Rhodes, Harry (Shirley) Rhodes and Ben Rhodes; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Rhodes.
