CA baseball falls to Edmund Burke in state quarterfinals

The Crisp Academy Wildcat baseball team had their season come to an end this weekend in the GISA AA state quarterfinals after falling to Edmund Burke Academy in a best-of-three series in Waynesboro.
The teams split the first two games of the series on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats took game one by a final score of 8-4 before falling by a score of 13-3 in game two. The double-header split set up the third and final game on Saturday, and the hosts knocked off CA 12-2 in the contest to advance in the tournament.
Wildcats 8, EBA 4
Edmund Burke led 1-0 after the first inning of play in game one, but the Wildcats took control of the contest with a six-run top half of the second inning.
Crisp got RBI hits from Garrett Gravitt and Zach Chalon in the top of the second inning, and the Wildcats scored the other four runs of the inning after defensive mistakes from EBA.
Julian Floyd later scored the seventh run of the day for CA in the top half of the third inning after an error by EBA, and Crisp’s final run of game one came during the top of the fourth inning when Griffin Gravitt hit an RBI single to score Dylan Farmer.
Edmund Burke scored three more runs over the remainder of the contest, but CA held off the comeback attempt to take a 1-0 series advantage after the first contest in the best-of-three series.
Will Hubbard got the win on the mound for the Wildcats after pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks, while recording four strikeouts.
Griffin Gravitt led the CA batting lineup in game one with two hits, one walk, one RBI, and one run scored. Hubbard and Garrett Gravitt each had a hit and one run scored in the contest, while Chalon recorded a hit and an RBI. Floyd finished the first game with two runs scored.
EBA 13, Wildcats 3
The hosts took the second game of the series by a final score of 13-3 after six innings of play to even up the series record at one game each.
Crisp Academy’s three runs in game two were all scored in the bottom half of the first inning. Baylor Pless scored the first run on an EBA error, and Farmer later hit an RBI triple that scored Hubbard for the second run. An RBI single from Griffin Gravitt sent Hubbard home shortly after for the third and final run of game two for Crisp.
Farmer finished the game with two hits (triple and a single), one RBI, and one run scored. Griffin Gravitt and Spencer Stubbs had one hit apiece in the contest.
EBA 12, Wildcats 2
CA opened game three with a 2-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning. Pless drew a walk to lead off the frame and Hubbard picked up a single in the next at-bat. Farmer later sent Pless home with a sacrifice fly for the first run, and Hubbard scored on an error for the second.
The hosts later took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the first frame, and subsequently piled on six runs in the bottom of the third, then tacked on three more scores in the fourth inning for the final score of 12-2.
Pless, Hubbard, and Noah Mercer each finished the contest with a hit for Crisp Academy.
The Wildcats finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 14-7 and a third place finish in a tough region 3-AA.
