John Hobson Pate “Achie” of Cordele passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Crisp Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The committal service will follow in Sunnyside cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

“Achie” as he was affectionately known, was born in Cordele to the late Pearson Hobson Pate and Lula Inez Nipper Pate. A United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was the owner and operator of Pate Flooring, following in his father’s footsteps. He was well known for his floor work, both installing new floors and renovating old ones.

Achie, 76, is survived by his daughter, Angie (Billy Joe) Hayslip of Cordele;  a sister, Deborah Pate Buchanan of Cordele; a son-in-law, Thomas Sullivan of Macon; grandchildren, Chad Hayslip, Cheyenne Hayslip, Craig Porter, Brandilyn Porter, Danielle Gibson and Adam Gibson; a great-grandson, Rand Coody; several special nieces and nephews, Tanya (Bradford Rogers) Reed, Jennifer (Bryan) Clark, Terry (Laura Scofield) Pate,Tiffany (Robert) Graham and Tammy Espe; and a great-nephew and great-niece, Kody Clark and Kaitlyn Clark. He was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Porter, a brother, Felton Pate, and a nephew, Tracy Pate.
