Wilcox County Sheriff Robert Rodgers recently announced a partnership between the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office and the Wilcox County School System for the placement of a deputy as school resource officer within the Wilcox County schools.
“This has been our plan for some time now to be able to utilize a deputy within the schools,” stated Sheriff Rodgers. He also thanked Superintendent Julie Childers along with the Wilcox County Board of Education and administrators for the opportunity to work together to provide a safe environment for our students to learn.
Deputy Kimberly Lawson has been assigned as the School Resource Officer and she will also be the C.H.A.M.P.S instructor. “Deputy Lawson will be a great asset to our schools,” Rodgers said.
Wilcox County Superintendent Julie Childers expressed excitement over Deputy Lawson becoming a part of the Wilcox County School Family.
“The Wilcox County Board of Education and I have worked diligently with Wilcox County Commissioners and Sheriff Rodgers to fund this position through a mutual partnership,” Childers said. “Having a School Resource Officer on the PK-12 School campus is another proactive measure to keep our students and staff safe.”
Deputy Lawson will be available to talk to students daily and will also provide additional security at school sponsored events.
