Ruth Dowdy Moore, 90, of Cordele passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Fellowship Home of Cordelia Manor.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Moore of Longwood, FL; two sisters, Lounell Dorminey of Cordele and Wilma Branch of Jacksonville, FL; two granddaughters, Dee Anna DiStasio of Cordele and Angela Nicole Gregory of Daniel Island, SC; five grandchildren, Rachael Clark, Roxanne Holder, Jessica Wilson, Drew Gregory and Carter Gregory; and four great-great-grandchildren, Brayden Wright, Brynn Clark, Joshua Holder and Sydney Holder.

She was preceded in death by two children, Mollie Earlene Moore and Sammie E. Moore and five brothers, Glenn Dowdy, W.T. Dowdy, Edward Dowdy, Grady Dowdy and Buford Dowdy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services.  The committal service will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth was the daughter of the late Jack Dowdy and Lettie Hollingsworth Dowdy. She was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church and an entrepreneur, having been involved with many business ventures in her lifetime. She was a longtime owner of a day care center in Florida and had worked for many years with Publix. She loved working in her yards, gardening and tending to her dogs. Ruth sang in a group and they loved going to the nursing homes after church and singing for the residents. Most of all she enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
