Crisp Academy Lady Cats drop games versus SGA

CORDELE- The Crisp Academy Lady Wildcat softball team hosted region opponent, Southwest Georgia Academy for a double-header on Tuesday afternoon. SGA won both games in the two game set, taking the first by a final score of 6-0 and the second by 9-8 score.
Maddie Reed and Eliza Hill each had a hit for the Lady Wildcats in the 6-0 game one loss to the Lady Warriors.
Game two was a much more competitive outing that saw SGA take a lead in the middle innings before a Crisp Academy comeback attempt fell just a run short in the end.
The Lady Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Reed scored a run on an SGA error. Mia Purvis picked up an RBI hit later in the inning to score Hill for a 2-0 CA lead going into the second inning.
SGA scored four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-2 lead into the third frame.
The Lady Wildcats struck back for one run in the bottom of the third after Reed scored on an RBI groundout from Purvis. SGA then tacked on another run in the top of the fourth for a 5-3 advantage, but the Lady Cats tied the score with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth.
Emily West led off the frame with a double and subsequently scored on a Libby Manning groundball that led to an SGA error. Sadie Mercer then picked up an RBI on a groundout that sent Manning home. The teams were tied at 5-5 going into the fifth inning.
SGA took a 9-5 lead with four more runs in the top of the fifth. The Lady Cats pulled a run back in the bottom half on an RBI groundout from Mary McCabe that scored Purvis.
The Lady Cats continued their comeback attempt with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning but they ended up falling one run short.
Allie McPherson drew a one out walk and scored the first run of the inning on an SGA error after a groundball from Reed. The second run came on an RBI single from Purvis that scored Reed.
SGA held on for the 9-8 win after a scoreless seventh inning.
Purvis had two hits out of four at bats with three RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored in the game. West finished with two hits, a stolen base and a run scored. Reed was 1-3 with three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk, while Haley Odom had the only other CA hit in the game and also stole a base.

The Lady Wildcats had a game at Citizens Christian Academy halted due to a rainout on Wednesday afternoon, and dropped a region home game against Westwood 6-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Up next for the Lady Wildcats is a Monday afternoon home game against CCA at 4:30 p.m. They will then finish out their regular season schedule with a home double header against Valwood on Thursday afternoon starting at 4:30.
