1st Peter 3:15…And be ready always to give and answer to every man that asketh you a reason for the hope that is in you.
When the High Priest questioned Jesus concerning His disciples and His teaching, He replied; “Ask them which heard Me, what I have said unto them; behold, they know what I said.”
This article is more of a challenge to professing Christians than a doctrinal teaching. Question: Can you, as a professing Christian, truly defend your faith with reason from the Holy Scriptures? Do you truly possess hope and assurance based upon revealed truth from God’s Word, or are you one who has only a “hope so” or “maybe” religion? Have you heard Him and intelligently responded to the Gospel call with true conviction and understanding of the work of the cross or are you simply one who has responded to an emotional appeal through music and pleading and then coached through a series of statements and prayers and then pronounced “saved” by someone else? Is your religion a burden or a blessing? Are you truly drawn to know more of God through His Word? Are you growing in grace and in the knowledge of Him? Do you love what God loves and hate what God hates? Is your world view truly Biblical or do you reserve some opinions for yourself that do not reflect the truth of God’s Word because of peer pressure or popular opinion? Are you a faithful steward over the resources that God has placed in your care, or do you put your own personal care and comfort before all else? Do you keep for yourself that which belongs to God? Here is a true statement: “That which belongs to God is not yours to give, it is God’s to receive.”
There are numerous other questions that could be asked any professing Christian, but I believe the point is clear. Those who truly know Him desire to please and obey Him. As a new creation in Christ, every believer is a partaker of His Divine nature and truly loves what God loves and hates what God hates.
God bless all who hear His voice!
