Katherine Wright Varn died January 14, 2017 at home. She was 92 years old. Mrs. Varn was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon C. Varn; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wright; her sister, Ada Wright Folmer; her brother, Homer Wright, Jr. Mrs. Varn was the former Katherine Dowdell Wright of Auburn, Alabama and a graduate of Auburn University.

She is survived by her daughter, Sister Varn Summers (Clay) of Albany, GA; her sons, Gordon Wright Varn (Luanne) of Boynton Beach, FL, David Caulie Varn (Janie) of Franklin, TN; her grandchildren, Mary Katherine Bell (Durant) of Greensboro, NC, Clay Chamberlin Summers of Los Angeles, CA, Laura VArn Fritz (Laurence) of Spartanburg, SC, Katty Summers Albarracin (Christian) of Corinth, MS, David Caulie Varn, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Gordon Wright Varn, Jr. (Blakely) of Charlotte, NC, Jane Elliott Evans (Brent) of Evans, GA; 10 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and 5 ,caregivers, Barbie Vancleave, Wanda Green, Jeanette Jones, Deborah Patterson, Deboriah Davis all of Leesburg and Albany, GA.

A celebration of life service was held, Friday, January 20, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Porterfield United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the Varn family requests memorials be made to: Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC, 28607.
