It didn’t take the Crisp County Cougars long to get on the winning track Monday night. After a scoreless 1st inning in which Westover threatened early with runners at 2nd and 3rd and the Crisp defense rose to the occasion. It would be awhile before they made any noise. The Cougars however jumped out to a 3 to 0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning added 2 more in the 3rd inning and 3 more in the 4th to beat Westover 8-3.
The Cougars got 2 hits from Sophomore Myles Napier, a double and a triple. A crushing homerun in the 3rd inning from Brennan Bledsoe who went 1 for 3 with two RBI’s. Another big triple by Will Carter in the 3rd and 2 more RBI’s. Hits from Chris Pollock, Will Lanneau and Kasey Herrington ended the Cougar hits at 7 total.
Austin ”Boo” Walls started on the mound bent a little but didn’t break. Scattering 6 hits over 4 innings with 5 k’s, 5 walks and 3 earned runs. Walls was relieved by Jacob Hughes who recorded the save going 3 innings, giving up 0 runs on no hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. “ I am very proud of the boys hard work and play, it is difficult to stay focused during Spring break and they have done a good job,” said Head Coach Bill Pate. The Cougars have road to the playoffs but they have 7 region games remaining and Dougherty County is the only game remaining that isn’t a major threat. However with recent Monroe victory over Cairo nothing can be taken for granted. The Cougars face Tuesday night Bainbridge in Cordele. Then Crisp has to travel to Cairo, home for Worth, travel to Cook, home for TCC and Dougherty then on the road to Colquitt and Westover. That is a tough remaining schedule for sure but the Cougars can handle it.
