The Crisp County Cougars went south to Turner County over the last three days to play in a Christmas Tournament and went undefeated and won it all. The Championship played Tuesday night between Crisp County and Early County came right down to the wire and the Cougars inched by Early 62-61. The Cougars fell behind 18-14 in the first period only to comeback in the second stanza to take a 28 – 27 lead into halftime. After the intermission Early County came out hungry and sped past the Cougars out scoring them 21-16 to take the lead into the final quarter 48-44. The Cougars would not be denied and overcame the deficit to win in the end 62-61. “The guys stumbled a little on the turnovers but to their credit they never gave up or got down they just kept playing hard and ended up beating a good Early team,” said Stacy Stephens the Cougars Head round baller. Early County’s only two losses to date were to 6A Lee County and Basketball power house Model of Rome, Ga.
The Cougars and the Early County Bobcats were about even in all categories except in turnovers. Crisp County turned the ball over 13 times to the Bobcats 1 time and Early capitalized on those turnovers with 9 points. Crisp did however garner 7 steals to Early’s 0. From the field the Cougars shot 41% but managed a very good 85% from the line. Crisp County grabbed 28 rebounds and 8 assists. The Cougars next play January 5th in Cairo. With the 3 wins in Ashburn the Cougars now stand at 9-3 on the year and 3-3 in region play.
