CORDELE — Funeral services for Ruth H. Herrington, 86, were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial followed at Sunnyside Cemetery. Rev. J. T. Smith and Rev. Damon Fountain officiated the services.
Kathy Hall, pianist, played for the service. Frank McGarr, soloist, sang “Beulah Land” and “Holy Ground.” The service began with the playing of “Consider the Lilies.”
Serving as pallbearers were: Michael Brogdon, Jon Herrington, Tim Crews, Tommy Mayo, Carl Gamble, John Lee Hobbs, Phillip Herrington and Bill Crews. Honorary pallbearers were: Wendall Holt, Angel Smith, Billy and Frances Green, Dwain and Juanita Newsome, Henry and Joyce Barefoot, Barbara Mixon, Tony Mixon and Betty Smith.
Ruth died Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, 2015, at Cordele Health and Rehab.. She was born in Cordele, Ga. to the late Charlie Cleve Hobbs and the late Leila McGlamory Hobbs. She is the widow of A. Parks Herrington. She is preceded in death by a son: Franklin Herrington; and her siblings: Elsie Dunn, Ezra Hobbs, Wes Hobbs, Jack Hobbs and Horace Hobbs.
She was a retired cosmetologist from Dood’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church. She was a dainty southern lady and enjoyed cooking for others.
Surviving are her children: Edward (Linda) Herrington, Brenda (David) Brogdon and Cyledia (Bobby) Mixon all of Cordele; her daughter-in-law: Joyce Herrington of Pinehurst, Ga.; her grandchildren: Paige (Mark) Reed, Cherree (Cale) Hilliard, Phillip (Cristina) Herrington, Marilyn Brogdon, Michael (Carolyn) Brogdon, Jon (Lindsey) Herrington, Leigh (Mike) McClelland, Tim Crews, Bill (Donna) Crews, Brittany Freeman, Tiffany (Brett) Sinyard and Ashlin Herrington; 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
