Cordele —
The prosecution began presenting its case against Amin Dennis in Superior Court Monday. Dennis is one of three defendants scheduled to be triedseparatey in connection with the deaths of Jerry Lee Lawrence and Harold Reese Jr. in August, 2009.
A jogger out for a morning ride discovered a charred SUV in a cotton field off of Blackshear Road here. In the car was the remains of a badly burned body later identified as Lawrence. Reese was discovered the next day in the same field but some distance from the SUV.
District Attorney Denise Fachini has called several witnesses during the week including Special Agent David Smith, of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who testified on Wednesday.
The prosecution entered a number of photographs into evidence which Smith explained he had taken of the crime scene after the discovery of the crime.
Other physical evidence included a number of items seized by law enforcement from a burn pile at a Fourth Avenue address where Amin resided in Cordele.
In items seized from that burn pile were sets of keys that Smith later discovered opened various locks on the doors to Reese’s home.
Blood evidence was also discovered in the residence but none sufficient to obtain a DNA profile from.
The trial, which is being presided over by Superior Court Judge John Pridgen, is expected to continue throughout the week.
Dennis is one of three defendants being tried separately in this case. The others, who will be tried at a later time, are his brother and a female suspect.
