And they're off. . .

Cordele scouting volunteer Gerry Nipper prepares to launch two cars in the annual Pinewood Soapbox Derby Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Participating Cub Scouts are cheering their cars on as Scout Master Chet Lapeza looks on. About 50 area Cub Scouts participated in the event which began the local Centennial celebration of Boy Scouts of America. Scouts will wear their uniforms to church today and be recognized in several area churches. Pack and Troop 270’s annual Blue and Gold Banquet is planned for Monday evening.
