VIENNA — Representing BIG PIG JIG at the 2008 Memphis in May competition will be Southern Chefs from Lake Blackshear. Before taking the grand championship title to climax the 26th annual event this past weekend, Southern Chefs also finished first in the Ribs category.
Selected as volunteers of the year were Ann Gambrell and Cindy McAnally.
Winner of the Alfred Hawkins People’s Choice award, sponsored by Stripling’s General Store, was The Not Ready for Primetime Cookers.
Other winners in the pork categories which count toward the grand championship included:

Winners in the Stew category were • First place - Petes Pork Pokers; • Second place - Whitfield’s Recipes and • Third place - Backyard Barbecue Boys.
For Best sauce, the winners were • First place- Smoke Shack Barbecue; • Second place- Sowbellies and • Third place - The Florida Boys.
Winners in the chicken category include • First place- Citizens Telephone Cookers; • Second place- Back Porch Smokers and • Third place- Low Country Long Shots.

Suspected drug distributor arrested
Approximately four pounds of suspected marijuana was seized after an investigation by the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Department. Delmas Williams was arrested and charged with the sale and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and obstruction of officers.
