Cordele —
Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce representatives Bob Evans and Monica Simmons addressed the board at Tuesday’s meeting asking members to approve the proclamation.
“Mr. Perlis has served on the Chamber and has been a Boy Scout leader for many years,” said Evans. “He also donated the land for Darton College and we would like to present him with a special award.”
In other business:
— A contract for revaluation of properties was approved by the board.
Tim Quick, chief appraiser for Board of Assessors, suggested the low bid from G.M.A.S.S. Inc. of $198,000 be accepted.
— The board approved resolutions affirming the necessity of E-911 wireless and wire line charges.
— A request to eliminate equipment tax for “U-Cook & Eat” for SanSheff Inc. was denied.
“It is against state law,” County Administrator Gene Crapse said.
— Karen Merit was appointed to the Crisp-Dooly Joint Development Authority to fill the unexpired term of Roxie Bagwell who resigned. The term will run through June 30, 2011.
— The board approved Crapse’s contract for another year.
— “The total cash on hand for July 2010 is $10,420,095,” finance director Sherry Leverette revealed.
Crapse commented “This has gone down $2.2 million since July 2009.”
— The board made a motion to approve one pinwheel of fields must be open during daylight hours which passed.
The security of ball complex fields was discussed by commissioners and Chris Greene, chairman of the recreation advisory board.
“Some parents and citizens want to use the fields but they are all locked,” Greene said. “Some fields are supposed to be left unlocked for families and kids to go practice.”
“I don’t believe they should be denied access, commissioner Brad Faircloth said” . I am fed up with it.”
Both Faircloth and Commissioner William Culpepper have received numerous phone calls complaining the fields are closed.
— Crapse reported that registration for the after school program was insufficient to continue the program so Friday is the last day.
“We only got nine applicants and that total failed to reach our minimum enrollment of 20 to conduct this program.”
— Registration for Crisp County Leisure Opportunity football and cheerleading goes through the end of this week. Fall soccer sign-ups are ongoing through next week.
— “We received the results for our sales ratio appeal and it resulted in no revisions,” Crapse said.
“The sales ratio remains 35.73 which is out of the 36 to 44 window. We should be OK for 2009 due to the legislative moratorium.
“We are still subject to the 2008 penalty which I understand the state will actively pursue collecting in the near future.”
