Vienna — SAVANNAH – Vienna Councilmember Beth English was elected third vice president of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) during the association’s annual meeting in Savannah June 28.

She is now in line to become president of the 500+ member organization in 2013.

English, who was first elected to the Vienna Council in 1998, has served on the GMA Board of Directors for several years. She has also served as chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee and as a member of GMA’s Risk Management and Employee Benefits Board of Trustees.

She has been involved in a number of study committees and task forces, and has been a part of GMA’s Legislative Policy Council for several years.

“Councilmember English is well respected by city officials around the state,” said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon. “She understands the issues cities are facing and the legislative issues that affect our municipalities. We look forward to her continued leadership in this new role.”
