CORDELE — The body of six-week old infant Rontavious Towns Jr. has been sent to the Georgia State Crime Lab in Macon in an effort to determine the cause and manner of death.
Cordele Police Department records show Patrolman Kyle Barfield was dispatched to the 607 22nd Ave. W., Apartment F, residence of the baby and his mother, Comeshia Battle, 24, just before 7 a.m. last Friday.
The investigating officer said that upon his arrival the infant was being held by a family member and that he believed the child to already be deceased at that time. He then turned further investigation over to Det. Ketorie Sales.
When EMS personnel arrived on the scene about three minutes after the officer, they reportedly confirmed the baby was deceased.

Wildcats earn third straight title series berth
The little ol’ town of Bethlehem and its top-ranked GISA Class A state baseball team couldn’t keep Crisp Academy from achieving Friday something akin to a yule gift — a third straight state title series berth.
Paired against a host Knights’ squad that brought a sparkling 19-2 record into a best-of-three series to determine which of them would qualify for the finals, coach John Penney’s Wildcats swept their hosts by 6-1 and 9-7 scores. - Former Crisp, NFL player to host July football camps for youths
