MACON, Ga. (AP) — A Laurens County woman will carry the Winter Olympics torch Tuesday in Calgary, Canada.
Crystal Hardy won the honor after being nominated by a friend based on her community service. Coca-Cola North America made the selections. Twenty-year-old Hardy will be one of 20 torchbearers.
Hardy is a co-founder of Green Teens in Dublin, a program that encourages Laurens County high school students to collect and recycle plastic bottles.
In Calgary, she'll carry the torch 300 meters before handing it off to Steve Lopez, a former Olympic medalist in tae kwon do.
