CORDELE — Crisp County High’s Lady Cougars made short work of Westover’s Lady Patriots in Thursday softball play, posting their most one-sided win of the season to date in just three innings by a 16-0 score.

That outcome snapped a two-game losing streak and improved the record of coach Kevin Blampied’s squad to 7-2-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 1-AAA play entering a 5:30 Tuesday home game vs. Coffee County.

“This being a region game, it was important for us to get a win as our goal continues to be doing well enough to get either a No. 1 or a No. 2 seed for the first round of tournament play,” Blampied said.

“We were able to easily come out on top today while trying to keep getting better as we look forward to each game as they come up on our schedule.”

The clash was almost over before it got started good as Crisp quickly seized a 10-0 first inning lead on five four walks, six Lady Patriot errors, a pair of singles by Sydne Mitchell and a double by Taylor Perry.

In the second, five walks, another Westover fielding miscue and singles by Mitchell and Deanna Brubaker produced the home team’s last six runs. Mitchell wound up with three of her team’s five hits.

As far as the mound work went, Hallye Hobbs struck out three batters and walked one in the lone inning she worked to open the game. She and Cassidy Jolly, who came on to toil the last two frames during which she fanned five and issued no walks, combined on a no-hitter.
