Adams, Howard head list of area gridders to sign scholarships Wednesday

Vienna — Heavily-recruited Dooly County lineman Montravius Adams will end speculation about his choice of the college he will attend at a press conference to be held on Wednesday’s National Signing Day.

A Parade Magazine All-America pick and the recipient of numerous statewide grid honors, Adams narrowed his list of favorites some time ago to SEC schools Georgia, Alabama and Auburn and ACC member Clemson University.

The 6-foot-3 300-pounder who led Dooly to the Class A public school state title game will reveal his collegiate destination in festivities to be aired live by ESPN-U beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the school gymnasium.

Two other Bobcats — defensive end Jaylen Daniels and offensive guard/defensive tackle JaSean Wiley — will also be signing on Wednesday with schools they have already publicly announced.

Daniels cast his lot three weeks ago with Division I Troy University of the Sunbelt Conference. Wiley, who had offers from some Division II schools but opted for the junior college route, has tabbed Mississippi Delta Community College in Morehead, Miss., as his pick.

The public is invited to attend the signing ceremonies for all three Dooly players.

Wilcox and Crisp counties, meanwhile, will also have players officially signing with the colleges they’ll be attending.

Patriots wide receiver Jonathan “Bug” Howard will be honoring the verbal commitment he gave some time back to North Carolina of the Atlantic Coast Conference while quarterback Makail Grace will reveal which offer he will accept from three junior colleges on his list of interest.

Cougars linebacker/defensive back Sherrod Ruff will also go the junior college route when he signs with Coffeyville (Kans.) Community College while offensive lineman Tony Alexander is headed to Shorter College, a current NAIA member that is moving to Division II status.

Ceremonies at Wilcox are scheduled to get under way at 11 a.m. in the school media center. No official time for the signings at Crisp County had been announced as of late Saturday.
