From STAFF REPORTS
ROCHELLE — Wearing its hitting clothes to the field both days, the Wilcox County Middle School baseball team outscored Hawkinsville 16-8 on Monday and drubbed Macon County 15-0 on Tuesday.
In the win over Hawkinsville, Wilcox spotted its foe an 8-0 lead in the first three innings before shutting it out the rest of the way and coming up with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to go on top for good. A two-run sixth and a five-run seventh made the victory much easier to record.
Nolan Moorhouse and Greyson Farrow each had a double and two singles to lead the 15-hit Wilcox attack in which James Wessel had a four-RBI day with a double and single. Landon Sapp and Josh Jackson stroked two singles apiece.
Ty Tyndall got the mound win in relief of starter Brandon Mathis. Jackson also toiled an inning. The trio of moundsmen had a combined four strikeouts and one walk while allowing a total of 14 hits.
Against Macon County, Wilcox (5-0) needed just four innings to invoke the mercy rule as it scored eight runs in the first, five in the third and two in the fourth.
David Swain stroked three singles, Sean Iglesias smacked a double and single and Garrett Stephens belted a pair of singles to spark the victors’ 11-hit attack.
Brandon Martin struck out eight and did not walk a batter to gain credit for the win in which he and Moorhouse, who fanned three and issued no free passes while working an inning in relief, combined on a one-hitter.
