Hawkinsville hammers Dooly in softball

Vienna — VIENNA — Dooly County High’s Lady Bobcats went into their fourth game of the season still looking for their first win of 2010 but came nowhere near finding it.

In fact, the 18-0 setback inflicted upon them by Hawkinsville represented their worst defeat to date. Losses of 19-4 and 15-0 had been their previous nadir.

“Our biggest hang-up continues to be the problems we’re having at the pitcher and catcher positions as we continue to walk way too many batter and have far too many passed balls,” Dooly coach Minnie Harper said.

“And on top of that, we had a couple of misplayed fly balls that cost us runs. Our infield did play well.”

The Hawkinsville pitcher flirted with a perfect game only to lose it when she issued a pair of walks to the Lady Bobcats whose next start comes Thursday at Schley County.
