Cordele —
In addition to the schedule “newcomers” who aren’t really that since both Valdosta and Albany High have appeared on the Cougars’ slate in the past, kick-off time for Crisp’s home games will be moved from 7:30 to 8.
Class AAAAAA Valdosta, which will actually host the Cougars in 2012 and 2013 since the Cougars have agreed to a buy-out of their scheduled home game, was last faced in 1979 when the Wildcats ran their series advantage to 10-0. This year’s clash is set for Sept. 14.
Albany, which for years has been playing at the Class AA level and this season will be moving up to Class AAA, was last met in 1993 when the Cougars posted a 26-14 win.
The Indians, who will become a fellow member of Crisp in Region 1, will come to town on Nov. 2 to renew their rivalry with the Cougars in a series that stands tied at 7-7.
After its preseason scrimmage here vs. Dooly at a date and time not yet determined, Crisp’s first counting game is on tap for Aug. 31 at home vs. Turner County. Then comes a Sept. 7 visit to Cook County (Adel), the Sept. 14 duel at Valdosta and a Sept. 21 home clash vs. Cairo to open region play.
Up next is a trip to Dougherty during the three-day period between Sept. 27-29, an Oct. 5 open date, an Oct. 12 home game vs. Westover, an Oct. 19 journey to Worth County, an Oct. 26 home fray vs. Monroe, the Nov. 2 duel here vs. Albany and a Nov. 9 outing at Americus-Sumter.
Cougar head coach Lee Campbell said the change in kick-off times was made to accommodate a number of fans who have said they were having difficulty making it to the stadium by 7:30. At least one of Crisp’s road games — Valdosta — also has a scheduled 8 p.m. start.
