HAWKINSVILLE — Crisp County High’s best score of the young golf season was good enough to get it a second place finish Thursday in competition vs. Schley County and Hawkinsville at the Southern Hills course.
Coach Mike Roobin’s linksters shot a 216 while finishing 23 strokes behind Schley’s 193 and five shots ahead of Hawkinsville’s 221.
“We still have a long way to go, but we’re improving,” Roobin said after watching his squad turn in its top performance thus far. “Every match gives us more of the experience we need.”
Bret Stewart’s 53 topped the Cougars’ official four-man card. Ben Carr and Davontae Hunt both turned in a 54 and Caleb Pullman came in at 55. Non-counting scores were Tripp Blackwell’s 56, Danny Pham’s 57 and Taylor Hughes’ 65. Schley had the match’s low medalist with a 45.
Crisp’s only female player, Kellie Aultman, had a 64 as Roobin said she continued to improve her play.
Crisp will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Pine Hills Country Club in Cordele against Wilcox and at the same time Wednesday at Turner County.
