CAMILLA — Identical 4-1 losses on Tuesday to Westwood left Fullington Academy’s girls and boys team with matching 0-2 records.
“I was disappointed to see us lose but at the same time was proud to see us show the improvement we did over our first match,” said coach Kim Barron who heads up both the Trojans and Lady Trojans net programs. “I thought we played a lot better than the scores indicate.”
In girls competition, Fullington’s No. 2 singles player, Catherine Cumbus, missed the match due to illness and its No. 1 doubles team of Ashlyn Reed and Julia Peavy suffered through an off day.
“Betsy Henry did play real well and I was so proud she won (at No. 1 singles),” Barron said. “We had some others play well, too, especially the two freshmen (Madison Warbington and Rachel Barron) we used at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.”
In addressing the boys performance, Barron expressed pride over the win Zach McNeese and Stephen Simmons recorded at No. 1 doubles.
“That’s the first time they had played together in a region match and they really did well,” Barron said. “Caleb (Frenchko) and Dylan (Moak) also continued to improve as did Jake Cossart.”
