MOULTRIE — In their first two starts in Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 3 tournament play, the Crisp County Leisure Opportunities 12-and-under all-stars used huge first-inning outbursts as the springboard to victory.
Facing Tifton in Wednesday’s title game, the Crisp team waited until the fifth inning to record another of their run explosions on their way to an ultimate 15-11 victory that qualified them for state play to be held here July 9-11.
Held scoreless in its first three at-bats while falling into a 4-0 deficit, Crisp pulled to within a run in the fourth and then came up with a whopping 12 runs in the fifth to close out their scoring for the night.
Ben Hyde led the victors’ 14-hit assault with a triple, double and single. Bradley Hough was next in line with a triple and double. Travis Turner stroked a triple and single. Braden Shealy and Bige Veal each rapped a double and single.
Turner and Hough logged mound time for the winners, with the former working four complete innings during which he struck out five, walked four and allowed nine runs and eight hits. The latter whiffed four, issued one free pass and yielded two runs and four safeties.
