Local players helpMavericks win another tournament

TIFTON — Members of the 12-and-under Tifton Mavericks baseball travel team returned home victoriously this past weekend after repeating as Buckhead Classic champs for a second straight year.

The squad that also includes Cordeleans Taylor Walls and Stewart Tyler went undefeated in the three-day tournament.

The Mavericks began play by beating the Buckhead Bucks 14-3 and Eastside Yellow Jackets 11-1 on Friday. They then downed the NYO Titans 6-4 on Saturday.

On Sunday’s final day of competition they topped the Wills Park Lightning 10-0 in the winner’s bracket finals before posting a second win over the losers bracket finalist Yellow Jackets by an identical 6-4 score.
