Trio shares Crisp Horseshoe Club lead after opening night

Cordele — The Crisp Horseshoe Club kicked off the 2013 season on Tuesday evening at Turner Park with 14 competitors in attendance.

A trio of pitchers — Suzanne Miller, Roland Lallier and Larry Myers — won all three of their games and are thus tied for first place. Posting two wins and tying for fourth are George Rackard and Bud Brake.

Myers also had high ringer percentage (58) for the night while Ronnie Miller had high handicap game (160).

“Now would be a great time for new pitchers to come join us in the all the fun we have,” said club president Marcus Waters who noted that competition is held each Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Several club members will be in Perry this Saturday as the Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association season kicks off with a state qualifying tournament.

A six-person team also represented the Crisp club in the first ever Georgia-Florida Team Challenge tournament held recently in Flagler Beach, Fla.

The team with the highest combined point score gets to keep a traveling trophy for a year.

There were eight teams — four from each state —  competing. A team from Florida won.
