Cordele —
With the exception of Wilcox County’s Patriots and Lady Patriots, the other eight area basketball teams will bring down the curtain this week on the 2012-13 regular season.
Dooly County’s Bobcats (13-5 overall, 9-2 in Region 4-A play) and Lady Bobcats (6-12, 4-7) will be the busiest of all as after visiting Marion County on Tuesday they’ll travel to Pacelli on Friday at 6 and host Central Talbotton on Saturday at 7.
Crisp and Dooly counties and Crisp and Fullington academies all have two outings on tap for the week.
The Cougars (8-13 overall, 7-6 in Region 1-AAAA) and Lady Cougars (12-7, 9-4) of Crisp County close out non-region play on Tuesday at 6 at Tift County.
The Bobcats (13-5 overall, 9-2 in Region 4-A action) and Lady Bobcats (6-12, 4-7) likewise will be on the road Tuesday when they head to Marion County (Buena Vista) for a 6 p.m. twin bill.
The Wildcats (8-11 in all games, 4-4 in Region 3-A GISA competition) and Lady Wildcats (23-2, 8-0) of Crisp Academy journey on Tuesday to Grace Christian of Bainbridge at 6:30.
Fullington’s Trojans (9-8, 6-2) and Lady Trojans (6-13, 3-5) will also be out of town on Tuesday as they go to Highland of Valdosta for a twin bill tipping off at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the aforementioned Dooly-Pacelli match-up, another of Friday’s three other doubleheaders finds Fullington at Crisp Academy for a twin bill that has a 6 p.m. start instead of the usual 6:30 tip-off due to the host school’s senior night observation.
Crisp and Wilcox counties close out region play at home at 6 p.m. against Americus-Sumter and Clinch County, respectively.
The Patriots (18-3 overall, 11-1 in Region 2-A) and Lady Patriots (3-15, 1-11) will follow up their Friday games vs. Clinch with a 6 p.m. Saturday home pairing against Hawkinsville.
Wilcox’s regular season comes to an end on Feb. 15 at Turner County in a game that might well determine the Region 2-A boys championship.
