Vienna —
When Dooly County High’s Lady Bobcats thumped Schley County 62-37 on Tuesday just three days after beating Hawkinsville 50-33, it marked the first time this season they’d notched back-to-back victories.
That wasn’t the only good news to come out of Dooly’s competition with fellow Region 4-A member Schley, though, as the 71-52 triumph posted by the Bobcats extended their winning string to 11 games — a skein unmatched in at least the last 15 years.
The now 5-11, 4-6 Lady Bobcats of coach David Barron and 13-3, 9-1 Bobcats of coach Towandi King’s boys make two road starts this weekend.
They’ll visit Greenville on Friday, seeking revenge for earlier losses of 86-60 (girls) and 61-59 and then go to Wilcox County on Saturday looking to pay back previous defeats of 66-61 (boys) and 52-51.
Dooly 62, Schley 37 (girls)
With their fast break clicking on all cylinders, the visitors bolted to a 21-15 first period lead that likely had them thinking they were on their way to successfully following up on a 59-47 Jan. 8 win over their host.
Not so, though, as the Lady Bobcats went on to show them by winning the scoring battle in the tree remaining periods of play. A 16-4 second quarter edge put the home team ahead 31-25 at halftime and a 12-5 advantage in the third canto made it 43-30 entering the final turn won 19-7 by Dooly.
“After their big first quarter, we settled down and started playing good defense by sticking to them like glue,” home team scorekeeper Sharal Young said in reporting game results. “In doing so, we held the Coleman girl (Trinity) to just 12 points after she got 32 against us earlier.
“And, too, I think we caught them off guard with all the additional players we’ve picked up lately as this time we didn’t run out of gas like we did when we met them before.”
The Lady Bobcats saw three performers they employed in the game reach double digits in scoring. Quanesha Tookes led the way with 21. Then came Tridedra Burke with 16 and Shy’Lexia Hall with 10.

Bobcats 71, Wildcats 52
In what proved to be a “bombs-away” battle by both teams, the Bobcats used their season-high nine treys as impetus to offset the long-range antics of the Wildcats who drained eight shots from behind the 3-point arc.
Dooly’s size advantage inside along with its scoring consistency by quarters and its individual balance in the points department were other keys to its triumph that saw it leading 16-10, 31-19 and 47-28 at the rest stops.
“Our press and overall defense were really good, too, especially in the first three quarters (before the final period turned into a basket-swapper when each team tallied its final 24 points of the evening,” Young said. “And on top of that, A.J. (Smith) and LaParris (Hall) pretty much controlled the boards.”
That pair also emerged as the Bobcats’ leading scorers with Smith sinking five treys on his way to a 22-point performance and Hall canning 17. Kelsey Solomon led Schley with 13.
