Cordele —
Crisp County High tennis teams needed to do little more than show up Tuesday to gain credit for a double sweep of fellow Region 1-AAAA member Monroe High.
Coach Junior Peeples’ girls and boys both chalked up a pair of 5-0 wins over the Tornadoes squads while improving records to 5-1 (girls) and 3-3 heading into their next matches that come here today vs. Westover.
“After not getting on the courts for the past several days due to all the rain we’ve had, it was good to see our players go out there and take care of business the way they did,” Peeples said.
“I’ve emphasized to both our teams the fact that by getting a second match against teams we’ve already faced once we’re in position to improve our seeding when it comes playoff time at the end of the season.
“That’s especially true in the case of our girls who if they keep winning and beat Americus-Sumter in a re-match will be tied for first and thus force a playoff for the No. 1 seed from our region.
“As for the boys, the teams we’ve lost to only beat us by 3-2 scores so if we can turn those results around in the re-matches, we’ll get a much higher seeding, too.”
