Niceville, Fla. —
Former Crisp County High pitching stalwart Davis Adkins drew raves from his coach after making a second straight key contribution to Darton College’s 2013 baseball season last Friday.
Coming on with one down in the seventh inning of a game against Northwest Florida State which was ahead at the time and had the bases loaded, Adkins allowed two of his inherited runners to score but after that shut the door on the home team as the Cavs rallied for a wild 7-6 victory.
Adkins, who had been credited with the first save of his college career when Darton beat Southern Union three days earlier, was credited with his initial win when he struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth after Darton had scored five times in the top of the frame.
“We went and saw him (Adkins) last year (when he figured prominently in Crisp County’s record-setting 27-2 season) and knew he would be great for us,” Darton coach Scot Hemmings said afterwards.
“He comes in and never gets rattled. He can throw an unbelievable slider for a strike anytime in the county and is a huge part of our plan and our program right now.”
