Sylvester —
Crisp County High tennis teams posted contrasting victories in Tuesday competition with Worth County.
While the Lady Cougars had little trouble in subduing the Lady Rams 5-0 and bettering their record to 10-1, the Cougars had quite a battle on their hand before escaping with a 3-2 win that made them 7-4 .
After their home matches yesterday against Americus-Sumter, the Crisp teams won’t play again until Tuesday when they entertain Dougherty High.
Lady Cougars 5, Lady Rams 0
Forced to make a change in their normal playing ladder due to the illness of one of their players, the Lady Cougars used Jordan Farmer at No. 3 singles and revised the make-up of their two doubles teams.
“Even with all the changes we made, our young ladies stayed focused in their matches as they continued to display the consistency they’ve pretty much shown all year,” coach Junior Peeples said afterwards.
Singles — Julia Davis (C) def. Drew Bran 6-1, 6-0; Ashley Denby (C) def. Alexius Davis 6-3, 6-2, and Jordan Farmer (C) def. Haley Blevins 6-1, 6-3.
Doubles — Catherine Mayo and Danielle Walls (C) def. Bethany Apperson and Kelli Harrell 6-0, 6-3 and Laura Bertelson and Madeline Hermanowski (C) def. Tichina Richardson and Chiadriaganna Anderson 6-3, 6-1.
Cougars 3, Rams 2
With Crisp having won at No. 2 singles and earning credit for a forfeit win at No. 2 doubles and Worth having prevailed at No. 1 singles and doubles, the overall outcome hinged upon results of the No. 3 singles.

Stewart registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory that made the Cougars a winner at the team level as well.
“Bryan handled the pressure well and this being a region (1-AAAA) pairing played a key role in helping us get a win that should help improve our seeding come tournament time,” Peeples said.
“Overall, I was pleased with the play of all three of our singles representatives. Even though he lost in his first start at No. 1 singles, Jonathan (Baker) did a good job as did Derrick (Bessix) who after losing the first set came back to win the next two.”
Singles — Wade Pritchard (W) def. Jonathan Baker 6-0, 7-5; Derrick Bessix (C) def. Josh Spurlin 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, and Bryan Stewart (C) def, Matthew Helton 6-2, 6-3.
Doubles — Logan Goodwin and Tyler Layfield (W) def. Brandon Dominy and Zach West 6-7, 7-1, 10-4 and John Barrett and Shelby Arnett (C) won by forfeit.
